This is a 22-inch lady. Alt, Beck, & Gottschalck made many heads for Wagner & Zetzsche from 1854 and later. This stunning lady is on a kid body with porcelain hands. She has a bald head, bisque shoulder head, brown glass eyes, ventilated wig, original shoes and dress. Her leather shoes are perfect and they are the originals. There has been some melting on her silk dress. Made circa 1850, she has survived the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire. She does have a mended shoulder and is mold # 639.
This doll was originally owned by Mary G. Crocker of San Francisco. She was purchased in France especially for her.
Also included with this purchase is a book by Charles Eugene Banks, 'The History of the San Francisco Disaster and Mount Vesuvius Horror', c. 1906.
This doll is pictured in Colemans 'The Collector's Encyclopedia of Dolls, II', page 1180. She is also in the 'German Encyclopedia', page 6. Finally, 'Blue Book #8', page 382.
